Retaining Walls for Holdingham Biogas Facility
Over 700m of precast walls installed in Lincolnshire for a 4 MW anaerobic digestion plant
Precast Walling for Silage Clamps & Site Retaining Structures: Project Overview
We collaborated with T Balfe Construction to supply and install 737.5 metres of modular precast retaining wall systems for the Holdingham Biogas facility in Sleaford, Lincolnshire. The 4 MW anaerobic digestion plant converts locally produced maize and grass silage into renewable energy – supporting the region’s sustainable energy targets and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
The project included a complete precast retaining wall package for both the silage clamp system and low-level retaining structures around the wider site.

Installation Timeline: Efficient, Compliant & Built to Last
All precast units were delivered and installed by us and T Balfe Construction, working from compacted foundations with a sand-cement or concrete blinding layer.
The AGRI T-walls formed the central dividing wall between two silage clamps, with AGRI L-walls enclosing the outer sections to maximise storage volume. The CLF10GS units were installed around the site perimeter to provide level changes and edge protection.
This combination of systems delivered a robust, low-maintenance solution with a clean finish and efficient use of space – supporting long-term feedstock storage for renewable energy production.
Why Our Precast Systems Were the Ideal Fit
Constructing silage clamp walls for biogas facilities requires strength, precision, and durability. The materials must withstand constant loading and resist the aggressive conditions of silage storage.
Our AGRI T and L series were selected for their engineered resilience and modular efficiency. The tongue-and-groove joint detail provides a precise connection between units, while the freestanding design removes the need for mechanical fixings.
Each wall was manufactured using C60/75 self-compacting concrete, which offers excellent performance in high-moisture agricultural environments.
Together, the CBS and T Balfe teams completed the installation in just seven days, fully complying with SSAFO and Environment Agency standards.
