The Company We Keep

Sustainability without compromise

Our precast retaining wall systems are designed to minimise waste, reduce embodied carbon, and speed up installation.

This results in fewer deliveries, less concrete on site, and a smaller environmental impact for every project.

We use recycled water, optimise our cement mix, and design each unit to use only the materials it needs.

    Precast retaining wall FAQs

A precast concrete retaining wall is manufactured in controlled factory conditions and delivered to site ready for installation. It is designed to retain soil, aggregate, silage or other materials while resisting the lateral pressure from the retained material and any surcharge loading above it.

Our range includes standard precast cantilever walls, high-load systems, agricultural walls and bespoke retaining solutions.

An L-wall is a type of cantilever retaining wall. Its vertical stem and horizontal base form an L-shaped profile, and the weight of the retained material over the base helps the wall resist sliding and overturning.

The terms L-wall, L-shaped retaining wall, cantilever wall and precast cantilever retaining wall are often used interchangeably to describe the same general wall type. Individual systems can still differ significantly in their dimensions, load capacity, joint design and installation method.

Not all precast retaining walls use the same installation method. Some L-wall systems are drilled and fixed to a reinforced concrete foundation, whereas our standard CLF and DLF cantilever walls are designed for fix-free installation.

The units are placed on a suitably prepared foundation, and their geometry, weight, retained material and interlocking joints provide stability in accordance with the project design. This removes the need to drill and install mechanical fixings through each unit.

A precast cantilever wall is a complete reinforced-concrete unit with a vertical stem and a base. A king post wall uses vertical steel columns embedded or concreted into the ground, with concrete, timber or other panels fitted between them. King post systems are commonly used where excavation space is restricted or where the posts can be installed directly into the ground.

Cantilever walls offer an uninterrupted concrete face without exposed steel posts. Our systems also provide options for interlocking joints, corners, curves, sloping tops and handrail-compatible wall tops. The best choice depends on the ground conditions, retained height, loads, available footprint and required finish.

Interlocking concrete blocks form gravity walls, relying primarily on the blocks’ mass and depth to resist the retained material. They can be useful for temporary bays, reconfigurable layouts, and bulk material storage.

Precast cantilever walls use reinforced structural geometry rather than mass alone. This typically results in a slimmer wall profile and a cleaner, continuous face, making them particularly well-suited to permanent earth retention, boundaries, housing developments, landscaping and infrastructure projects.

The price of a precast retaining wall depends on the wall’s height, length, loading requirements, unit type, foundation design, delivery location, and whether installation is included.

A low wall carrying a standard 10 kN/m² surcharge will have very different design and transport requirements compared with a taller wall beside an access road or supporting heavy plant.

Send us your drawings, retained heights and loading information, and we can recommend the appropriate system and provide an accurate quotation.

    The key information normally includes:

    • retained height and wall length
    • ground levels on both sides
    • soil properties and allowable bearing pressure
    • surcharge loads from vehicles, buildings or stored materials
    • groundwater and drainage conditions
    • foundation type
    • wall alignment, corners and changes in level
    • required design life, exposure class and finish

We can provide product data, CAD drawings, datasheets and structural calculations to support the retaining wall and foundation design.

Yes. Our in-house engineering team can provide support with product selection, wall layouts, CAD information, datasheets and structural calculations for the precast units.

The foundation and overall ground stability must also be considered as part of the project design. Responsibility for those elements should be agreed at the outset so that the wall units, ground conditions and the foundation work together correctly.

The foundation is prepared to the project design before the units are lifted into position using their cast-in lifting anchors and suitable standard lifting equipment. The tongue-and-groove joints help align adjoining units and maintain alignment as installation progresses.

No specialist wall installation machinery is required. Subject to access, wall height, layout, and site conditions, a team of three to four can typically install around 80 metres in a day.

The appropriate plant depends on the weight of the units and the available lifting radius. A suitable 360 excavator, telehandler or mobile crane can normally be used with the specified lifting chains, shackles and cast-in anchors.

Unit weights and lifting requirements are shown in the product datasheets, allowing the installation team to plan the lift before delivery.

The CLF10GS retaining wall range is available in 17 standard heights, from 0.5m to 4.5m, in 250mm increments. Standard units are typically 2m long, with selected heights also available in 4m lengths to reduce the number of lifts and joints. One-metre units are available where lower weights or tighter access make shorter units more practical.

Higher-load, agricultural and bespoke wall systems are also available when the standard L-wall range is unsuitable.

Yes. Layouts can include 45-degree and 90-degree corners, internal and external radii, stepped foundations and sloping-top units.

The consistent wall-top thickness also allows temporary edge protection or permanent handrails to be incorporated as required. Bespoke units should be identified during design so they can be manufactured to match the final wall layout.
