Every project is different, and your retaining wall layout needs to work with the ground conditions, not against them. Whether you’re working on a sloping site, need a consistent top level, or are incorporating curves into your design, we can help.
The green shading in the diagrams shows the consistent 100mm top thickness across all layout options, designed for a clean finish and easy integration with handrails if required.
Stepped Foundation With Level Top
This layout is ideal for sloping sites where a consistent wall height is needed. It allows you to follow ground levels while maintaining a straight, level finish at the top of the retaining wall.
Level Foundation With Sloping Top
This layout is perfect when you need a level foundation but want the wall to follow a changing ground profile. The top of the wall steps down gradually, making it a great fit for landscaped banks or tiered sites.
External Radius (Concave Wall)
This layout is for retaining walls that need to curve outward, commonly used around roads, raised areas, or landscaping features. All radius walls are custom-made, and we’ll work with you to get the design and dimensions right for your project.
Internal Radius (Convex Wall)
This layout is designed for retaining walls that curve inward, typically used when space is tight or when the wall wraps around a recessed area. We’ll help you get the right radius for your layout and loading requirements.
Precast Corner Units
Available in 90° and 45°, in single or split formats. Designed to create continuous layouts without site cutting or custom fabrication.
Handrail Compatibility
DLF10GS units have a consistent 100mm top thickness, making them perfect for temporary edge protection or pedestrian handrails where required.
StoneboxTM Option
Available as a hybrid wall with a gabion-style facade. Ideal for public spaces and architectural applications where finish matters.

Here are some of the most common questions we’re asked about the DlF10GS wall system
What makes the DLF10GS different from the CLF10GS?
It has the same overall geometry as the CLF but with additional reinforcement to handle a surcharge capacity of up to 25 kN/m². This makes it the preferred option for HGV yards, flood defences, bund walls, and other high‑load applications.
What surcharge can the DLF10GS handle?
The standard design accommodates up to 25 kN/m², suitable for HGV loading areas, retained roads, and large‑scale storage bays.
Can I choose a heeled or non-heeled version?
Yes. A heel extends the base on one side of the wall, spreading the load over a larger area. This is useful for sites with lower bearing capacity or where you want to reduce foundation depth. The heel can face either the retained or exposed side, depending on the application.
Do I always need a concrete foundation?
Not necessarily. On good ground, you can install on a compacted base with a sand/cement blinding. For heavy loads, poor ground, or non-heeled walls, a reinforced concrete base may be specified by the project engineer.
What heights are available to choose from?
We offer 17 standard heights, from 0.5 m to 4.5 m, in 250 mm increments. Corner units are also available for all heights.
What’s the design life?
Standard design life is 50 years under normal exposure classes (XC4, XD1, XS1, XF3). If you need longer, we can look at bespoke engineering solutions.
Is the DLF compatible with the Stonebox system?
Yes, you can add the Stonebox for a decorative or natural stone appearance.
